How to Initialize the Power Windows on a Kia Cee’d (ED) (2007–2012)

If the power windows on your Kia Cee’d stop operating correctly, the window control system may need to be initialized. This procedure resets the automatic window function and restores normal operation.

This guide applies to Kia Cee’d (ED) models produced between 2007 and 2012.

Applicable Vehicle

  • Make: Kia
  • Model: Cee’d
  • Generation: ED
  • Years: 2007–2012
  • Engine example: 1.6 16V (G4FC)
  • Procedure type: Power window initialization

When Window Initialization Is Required

The window system may lose its position memory after electrical interruptions or battery disconnection. When this happens, the automatic up or down function may stop working.

  • Auto window function no longer works
  • The window stops before reaching the fully closed position
  • The vehicle battery was recently disconnected
  • The window regulator or motor was serviced

Power Window Initialization Procedure

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  2. Pull and hold the power window switch in the close direction.
  3. Keep holding the switch until the window reaches the fully closed position.
  4. Continue holding the switch for approximately one additional second.
  5. Release the window switch.
  6. Repeat the same procedure for the passenger-side window if required.

Important Notes

  • Ensure the ignition remains switched on during the entire procedure.
  • The window must be completely closed before releasing the switch.
  • If the automatic function still does not work after initialization, the window regulator or switch may require inspection.
