If the sunroof on your Kia Cee’d stops responding correctly, it may require a system initialization. This procedure resets the sunroof control system so the sliding and tilting functions operate normally again.
This guide applies to Kia Cee’d (ED) models produced between 2007 and 2012 equipped with an electric sliding and tilting sunroof.
Applicable Vehicle
- Make: Kia
- Model: Cee’d
- Generation: ED
- Years: 2007–2012
- Engine example: 1.6 16V (G4FC)
- Procedure type: Sunroof initialization
When Sunroof Initialization Is Required
The sunroof system may need to be initialized if it loses its position memory or stops operating normally. This can happen after a battery disconnection, electrical fault, or if the sunroof stops midway during operation.
- The sunroof does not close fully
- The tilt function stops working
- The sunroof moves incorrectly or stops midway
- The vehicle battery was recently disconnected
Sunroof Initialization Procedure
- Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
- Ensure the sunroof is completely closed.
- Release the sunroof control switch.
- Press and hold the switch in the close direction.
- The sunroof may tilt and move slightly during the reset process.
- Release the switch.
- Press the switch again in the close direction.
- The sunroof will complete the initialization cycle.
Functions Checked During Initialization
During the reset process the sunroof system recalibrates its internal position limits. This ensures the following functions work correctly:
- Sunroof tilt down function
- Sunroof slide open function
- Sunroof slide close function
Important Notes
- Keep the ignition switched on during the entire procedure.
- Do not interrupt the initialization cycle once it starts.
- If the sunroof still malfunctions after initialization, further diagnosis may be required.
