Quick answer

Press the Stop & Start button — marked 'A' inside a curved arrow — to switch the system off on the second-generation Peugeot 5008; a dashboard message shows 'A OFF'. On the i-Cockpit dash the control is usually one of the 'piano key' toggle switches below the touchscreen, and on some button-minimal builds it lives in the touchscreen menu instead. It only stays off for the current drive: Stop & Start re-arms every time you restart the engine, and there is no factory setting to keep it off permanently.

Overview

Stop & Start shuts the 5008's engine off when you come to a stop and restarts it as you move away, to save fuel and cut emissions. On the second-generation 5008 (EMP2, i-Cockpit) it is armed automatically at every start and shown by an 'A' inside a curved arrow. Peugeot provides only a temporary override, as the system is meant to be left on.

Applies to

2017-present Peugeot 5008 Mk2, petrol and diesel with Stop & Start. Button placement can vary slightly by trim and model year.

What you’ll need

  • No tools required — this is a dashboard button

Step-by-step

  1. Find the Stop & Start controlLook for the 'A'-in-a-curved-arrow control among the 'piano key' toggle switches below the touchscreen, near the gear selector. On button-minimal trims it is instead a soft control in the touchscreen driving/vehicle-functions menu.
  2. Press it with the engine runningA single press switches Stop & Start off; a dashboard message and/or the button light confirm it is disabled.
  3. Confirm it is offThe engine will no longer shut down when you stop for the rest of this drive.
  4. Re-enable when you want it backPress the button again, or simply restart the car — the system re-arms on the next engine start.

Important

  • The off state does not stick — Stop & Start re-arms every time you start the engine, so you must press the button again each drive to keep it off.
  • There is no factory menu setting to disable it permanently; aftermarket modules exist but can affect the warranty.
  • Stop & Start will not shut the engine off when the battery charge is low, the cabin is still heating or cooling, or the engine is cold — that is normal protective behaviour.

FAQ

Can I turn the Peugeot 5008 Stop & Start off permanently?

Not with a factory setting. The 5008 re-arms Stop & Start at every start and offers no menu option to keep it off, so you press the button each drive. Aftermarket memory modules are the only lasting option, with a warranty risk.

Why does the engine keep cutting out at junctions?

That is Stop & Start working as intended — it stops the engine at a standstill to save fuel and restarts it when you move off. Press the 'A' button to stop that for the drive.

Why won't the engine stop sometimes even with Stop & Start on?

The system only stops the engine when the battery is charged enough, the cabin is comfortable and the engine is warm. In cold weather or with the climate working hard it stays running.

Is Stop & Start bad for the engine?

No. Cars with Stop & Start use a reinforced starter and an enhanced battery designed for frequent restarts, so normal use is not harmful — just fit the correct battery type when it needs replacing.
