Quick answer

To reboot a frozen Astra K IntelliLink screen, park with the ignition on and press and hold the power/volume knob for about ten to fifteen seconds until the screen goes black and restarts. This keeps your presets, Bluetooth pairings and saved navigation. There is no clean 'factory reset everything' item in the menu on most builds — individual sections are reset under Settings, and a true full wipe is a dealer operation.

Overview

The Astra K uses Vauxhall/Opel's IntelliLink system (R4.0 IntelliLink or Navi 900). Most freezes, black screens, reversing-camera glitches and Bluetooth drop-outs are cleared by a soft reboot, which loses nothing. Unlike some rivals, IntelliLink does not offer a single user-facing factory-reset button; you reset specific areas (paired devices, radio favourites) individually, and only a dealer's diagnostic equipment can force a complete software reset.

Applies to

2015–2021 Vauxhall/Opel Astra K with R4.0 IntelliLink or Navi 900 infotainment. Button behaviour and available reset options vary slightly by software build.

What you’ll need

  • No tools required for the reboot (a fuse pull is optional as a last resort)

Step-by-step

  1. Park with the ignition onKeep the car stationary and powered so the head unit stays on through the reboot.
  2. Press and hold the power/volume knob (~10–15 seconds)Hold it until the screen blacks out and the system restarts. Your presets, pairings and saved navigation are kept.
  3. If the knob-hold doesn't respond, try the button comboSome Astra K cars force a cold boot by holding the Home button and the fast-forward (≫) button together. Use this if the power-knob hold does nothing.
  4. Still frozen? Power-cycle the unitSwitch the ignition off, open and close the driver's door and restart the car (a full power-down), or as a last resort pull the infotainment fuse for about 30 seconds. A true factory wipe requires a dealer.

Important

  • Do not expect a tidy 'Settings → Factory reset all' menu — IntelliLink does not have one on most builds; only individual sections reset, and a full wipe is a dealer (GDS) job.
  • If you resort to pulling the infotainment fuse or disconnecting the battery, you may need your radio code or lose personalised settings — note them first.
  • Do the reboot parked, not while driving.

FAQ

How do I reboot the Astra K IntelliLink screen?

Park with the ignition on and hold the power/volume knob for about ten to fifteen seconds until the screen goes black and restarts. This is a soft reboot and keeps your settings.

How do I factory reset the Astra K infotainment?

There is no single factory-reset button in the menu on most Astra K builds. You can reset individual areas (paired phones, radio favourites) under Settings; a complete software reset needs a Vauxhall dealer's diagnostic equipment.

The power-knob hold does nothing — what else can I try?

On some cars holding the Home button and the fast-forward (≫) button together forces a cold boot. Failing that, do a full power-down by switching off, opening and closing the driver's door and restarting, or briefly pull the infotainment fuse.

Will a reboot delete my radio presets and pairings?

No. The press-and-hold reboot is a soft restart that keeps presets, Bluetooth pairings and saved navigation. Only clearing sections in Settings, or a dealer wipe, removes them.
