Quick answer

On the 2015–2021 Astra K the spanner reminder is driven by the 'remaining oil life' figure, and you reset it from the driver information centre. With the ignition on and the engine off, open the vehicle-information menu, scroll to the remaining oil life (Service) screen, and press and hold the SET/CLR (or the centre select) button until it resets to 100% and the spanner clears. Cars without the menu can use the pedal method: hold the accelerator and brake together, switch the ignition on, and hold about ten seconds until the spanner flashes and goes out.

Overview

The Astra K uses a flexible service system: a 'remaining oil life' percentage counts down and triggers the spanner reminder. Resetting after a service sets it back to 100%. There are two instrument clusters — a base cluster driven by the wiper/indicator stalk buttons and an uplevel colour cluster driven by the left steering-wheel buttons — so the menu is reached slightly differently depending on your car.

Applies to

2015–2021 Vauxhall/Opel Astra K, base or colour instrument cluster. The exact reset button label (SET/CLR versus a tick/select) varies by cluster and software version.

What you’ll need

  • No tools or scan tool required

Step-by-step

  1. Switch the ignition on, engine offTurn the ignition on without starting; on keyless cars press Start once without a foot on the brake/clutch.
  2. Open the driver information centre menuOn the base cluster use the buttons on the end of the wiper/indicator stalk (thumbwheel and menu button); on the colour cluster use the menu buttons on the left steering-wheel spoke.
  3. Scroll to 'remaining oil life' (Service)Navigate to the vehicle-information screen showing the remaining oil life percentage.
  4. Hold to reset to 100%Press and hold the SET/CLR button (stalk) or the centre select/tick button until the value resets to 100% and the spanner symbol clears, then switch the ignition off.
  5. No menu? Use the pedal methodWith the ignition off, press and hold the accelerator and brake pedals together, switch the ignition on (engine off) while holding, and keep holding about ten seconds until the spanner flashes and goes out. Cycle the ignition to confirm.

Important

  • This clears the interval-based reminder only — it does not clear a fault-driven warning light, which needs the diagnostic trouble codes read.
  • Reset only after the service is actually done; the remaining-oil-life figure is a real maintenance countdown.
  • The time or distance to the next service is set by the car's flexible-service algorithm, not entered manually here.

FAQ

How do I reset the Astra K service spanner?

Open the driver information centre with the ignition on, scroll to the 'remaining oil life' (Service) screen, and hold the SET/CLR or centre-select button until it returns to 100% and the spanner clears. Cars without the menu use the accelerator-and-brake pedal method.

Do I need a scan tool?

No. The Astra K service reset is done from the instrument-cluster menu (or the pedal method) with no tool. A scan tool is only needed if a fault warning is on rather than the service reminder.

The spanner came back after resetting — why?

If it returns immediately, the car may be showing a fault rather than the service interval. Have the diagnostic trouble codes read.

Where are the menu buttons on my Astra K?

On the base cluster they are on the end of the wiper/indicator stalk; on the uplevel colour cluster they are on the left steering-wheel spoke. Use whichever your car has to reach the vehicle-information menu.
